January 6th; Robertsbridge re-buy tournament. £5 buy-in/rebuy/add-on.
Total pool £85
8 players.

1st Mark £50
2nd Paul £25
3rd Anton £10
4th Matthew
5th Chris L
6th Lisa
7th Maria
8th Matt

Notable moments:

The rebuy element created the usual suicidal moves!

Matt’s all in bet with two 6’s on the board, making Paul think for a minute before calling his bluff with his rockets and doubling up.

Maria all-in with set tens on the turn, Anton calling and making flush on the river.

Lisa’s aggressive betting with rockets (or that’s what she represented!) that forced Maria off her straight draw.

Mark’s make or break moment under the gun, raising all in with K9, called by Matthew’s A7; and hitting trip nines on the flop.

Chris L’s limpet performance! Hitting the cards with his last bet each time, but it could never last.

Paul’s bluff with the Dolly forcing folds round the table!

Anton holding out for 3rd with the small stack before, going out against Paul.

Mark’s T8 beating Q? to win the game.

January 14th
Sunday evening SLT £2 freezeout
7 players, £14 pool

1st Matthew £10
2nd Christian £4
3rd Maria
4th Mark
5th Gavin
6th Helen
7th Dave

A long limpet-ey game, with players hitting cards as they’re about to go out. The Queens were out in force, with Q-Q-Q on one flop, and quad Queens knocking Helen out and doubling Mark’s stack. Christian seemed to win with pairs of 6’s and two pair, sometimes the rubbish hands are the ones to play..

The final hand was junk versus junk with two boats – Christian on 7-3 and Matthew on 8-2; flopping two 3’s looked good for Chris, the river turned an 8, and unbelievably the river another giving Matthew the game.

21st January

Sunday night SLT £2 Freezeout

11 players, £22 pool

1st Rich £16
2nd Mark £6
3rd Andy
4th Jenny
5th Helen
6th Maria
7th Anton
8th Matthew
9th Dave
10th Stuey
11th Christian

Tonight's game saw a speeded up game due to the number of players and a late start, 15 min blinds throughout and starting at 25/25.

Christian was first out with his AT losing to Helen's KK; Stuey chancing it with rags and losing pretty quickly, with Dave being forced out shortly after. Matthew limped along until he bizarrely folded with a 25 chip left, and with blinds pretty big he was out the next hand.

Rich then reinforced his lead when he put out both Maria and Anton at the same time, flopped top pair and Maria and Anton chancing draws that never came.

Helen and Jenny held on until the blinds eventually pushed them out, and the 3 handed game lasted til Andy's AJ lost to Rich's 68 on the river.

As soon as Andy was out Rich was the big chip leader but a few successful gambles put Mark chip leader until Rich's flush saw Mark down to the small stack again. The hard fought heads up game saw Rich overcoming Mark when Rich's Ace beating Mark's King when both Ace and King flopped; though it was close and chips were passing to and fro all the time.

4th Feruary

Sunday night SLT £2 Freezeout

6 players, £12 pool

1st Christian £10
2nd Chris £2
3rd Stuey
4th Maria
5th Rob
6th Dave

Small turnout for this game, but a nicely paced game none the less.

Dave was first out, having lost a big chunk off his stack early on with an A 10 that didn't deliver against Chris's pocket 10s.

Rob was next to go, with Stuey triumphant in a 3 way all in situatin with Rob & Maria.
(Stuey tactic of relying on the river to win big paid off for a number of head to heads with Maria)
This also left Maria too short stacked to come back from, and was out in 4th after losing out on the river to Stuey.

Stuey went out in 3rd, having lost a fair chunk of his stack previously after trying to bully Chris with rags.

So it was Chris v Christian, and small stack v huge stack.
We played several hands, but Chris didn't manage to dent the big stack sufficiently enough to cause Christian much problem, and was then forced out by the blinds.

Well done Christian - Lou will be pleased!!

11th February; £2 freezeout with seven players

I left with four still playing, so someone else'll have to describe it.

Quite slow going at first, with Chris L slowly accumulating chips, Dave sitting quietly, Maria and Mark slowly losing them, with new player Neil having some early success and Rich being blinded in for the first hour.

The first victim came as the 25/50 level started when Mark was knocked out on the river. Flop came 9-T-K; Maria betting 50, Mark raising to 400, Stuey calling straight away and surprisingly Maria calling also; a massive pot. The turn was a 6; both Maria and Mark check and Stuey bets another 200. Maria thinks long and hard before folding; Mark calls straight away to reveal AA, beating Stuey's KQ - but the river completed his straight with a J.

Newcomer Neil was next out when him and Stuey battled it out when his nothing was beaten by Stuey's not-very-much; followed by Rich, also going out to a Stuey bit-of-luck. (Can anyone remember what they were?)

Your earlier post was spot on:

11th February; £2 freezeout with seven players

1st Chris L - £11
2nd Stuey - £3
3rd Dave
4th Maria
5th Rich
6th Neil
7th Mark

All I remember about Rich going out was that after being blinded in for the first hour, he casually sat out a couple of hands before getting it into his head that Stuey was bluffing and taking him on. Unfortuantely Stuey had more chips than him, so forced him to pretty much go all in through the subsequent bettng rounds. The thing was - Richs' read on Stuey was correct and he did have nowt, but unfortunately it was a higher nowt that what he had - Something like Q high took the pot.

Can't remember how Maria & Dave went out.

At head to head the chips were pretty even, but Stuey had definately consumed more alcohol than Chris (sometimes that's a good strategy).
We played about 8 hands before Chris put Stuey all in with 5 cards on the board. Stuey called with 2 pair, and was knocked out by a straight.

With my recent run of good results, i'm thinking of doing the 14:00 Gutshot tourney on Saturday (£20)

SLT Sunday £2 Freezout

12 players, £24 pool.

1st Mark £15
2nd Maria £6
3rd Catherine £3
4th Jack
5th Nick
6th Rees
7th Andy
8th Anton
9th Helen
10th Christian
11th Stuey
12th Matthew.

Another single table game with more than 10 players saw high betting at the start, with many big raises called by several opponents - no-one went out but several people were left bleeding.

After an hour Matthew became the first victim, raising his QQ and being re-raised by Maria’s AK; Matthew betting big on a raggy flop but Maria refusing to be pushed out; the turn was a K and Matthew couldn’t let his hand go.

Shortly after Stuey went out to Andy; Flop came K-Q-6 with some betting, the turn another K and Stuey all-in on the river when an Ace came; he revealed AQ two-pair to Andy's trip Kings.

A long game followed before the next victims – Helen raising UTG with her AT, called by Christian’s A-4 and Nick putting them both all in and getting a lucky flush with his QT.

Nick then got his double knockout – Rees, having played a quiet game, was all in on QQ, and Andy counterfeited with QT, Nick calling both their all-ins and knocking them out with a Ace flush this time.

Nick himself became the next victim – to Catherine – when he got unlucky when he was two-paired on the turn with J7 and Catherine went all in on a straight draw and got her card on the river, leaving him very short stacked before going out the next hand with 7-2.

By this stage Jack had had a couple of drinks and not many chips and was out shortly after on big blind with 2-3.

Catherine’s first game saw her finish a creditable 3rd, betting her pocket 7’s but Maria made a pair of queens on the flop, knocking her out, leaving her the 5 to 1 big stack. A long heads-up match followed in which Mark managed to claw back to an even stack with Maria before she went all in pre flop with AK. Mark called (or do you mind if I go all-in?) and revealed pocket rockets; no help for Maria on the board and the river showed the fourth Ace, giving Mark the win.

19th March 2007 - SLT Sunday game, £2 freezeout.

10 players, £20 pot

1st Mark £14
2nd Rees £6
3rd Chris L
4th Christian
5th Ed
6th Nick
7th Dave
8th Matthew
9th Helen
10th Maria

A two-table game started with 12 stacks to accommodate late-running players, who never showed up. Two tables of five ensured some faster and more enjoyable play, something to consider for future games.

Like last week, some big pots at the beginning with Matthew hitting quad Aces on the first hand against Rees.

First out after about an hour was Maria, already hit a Q on the flop and went all in with her Q6, called by Ed on a straight draw which he hit on the turn.

Helen on the other table was next, all in with pocket 3’s, called by Nick’s Ax but Christian won it with pocket 5’s.

Shortly after, the remaining players moved to one table, randomly drawn again.

Matthew the next victim limping with A8, Chris L on BB with T3 hitting a ten on the flop and going all-in with his short stack, called by Matthew with his slightly smaller one. The turn and river didn’t help Matthew and so it became seven.

Dave was out next on BB with only slightly more than a big blind in his stack, all in with 67s, a good hand but beaten by Christian’s King high.

Next out was Nick, limping in with 3 others. The flop showed a Q and Mark made a big bet with his QJ, two others folding a Nick raising all-in with AK. Mark called and Nick was out when the turn and river didn’t help.

Blinds had reached 250/500 when Ed went out next, only holding enough chips to reach the big blind. Going all-in with KQ, Rees only needed to check and his 62 made it four players.

Christian and Rees limped into a pot with K-Q-x flopping; Rees getting his second victim when Christian gambled his Q but Rees was holding a K.

Rees got his hat-trick of knockouts when Chris L was forced all-in on SB with a short stack.

Heads-up and Rees held about 60% of the chips. A few hands were played before Mark was all-in on the turn with 94 with a 4 on the table; Rees calling with a straight draw and not hitting. Two hands later it was all over, Rees’s pocket 9’s losing to Mark’s KT, the ten coming on the very last card.

Could Mark make a hat-trick? Cool

Knockouts:

Rees - 3
Mark - 2
Christian - 2
Ed - 1
Chris L - 1

1st April £2 Freezout Sunday game

12 players £24 pot

1st Chris L
2nd Andy
3rd Rees
4th Anton
5th Mark
6th Helen
7th Paul
8th Christian
9th Dave
10th Maria
11th Matthew
12th Nick

Another two table game saw some more fast play and lots of action, in particular was Nick who gambled just a little too much and went out all-in early with A9 with T-T-T on the flop, called by Christian on AQ.

Matthew was next to go on the other table, slow playing his AA against Rees’s 99; the flop showed a king and he re-raised Rees’s bet to all in; Rees considered before calling and showing his 9's but Matthew can think himself unlucky when another 9 showed on the turn.

Chris L later raised under the gun, folded to Maria in late position who went all-in; bizarrely Chris L had to consider what to do before calling and showing KK to Maria’s QQ; the board didn’t help her and so she was the next to go.

Dave was short stacked by this stage and gambled with his Q3, only to get called by Rees with A7. Another Ace flopped to put Dave out of the game.

With 5 now on one table and 3 on the other the players had to wait until the next blind level before the random draw for the final table.

The very first hand on the last table saw Christian going all in against Chris L with a J-Q-J flop, and after some more careful consideration Chris called showing AQ to Christian’s K3. Fourth and fifth street didn’t show a king and so Christian was the next victim.

Paul managed to hold out with a few carefully timed all-ins to steal a couple of blinds before going out when he found trouble when his AJ failed to beat Chris L’s KK.

The next victim was to an unlikely combination of cards; Mark, short stacked by now, went all in, quickly called by Anton, and Helen following suit, also all in. Everyone else folded; Mark showed 22, Anton AA and Helen KK. The flop showed an Ace as well as a 2; Anton took the majority of the chips as he was shortest stacked and Mark was left the little remaining, with Helen making her exit.

Mark was next, running into Rees’s AA the very next hand; a bit of a battle against Chris L saw him eventually fold; Mark’s A7 made a 7 high flush on the river but Rees had the Ace of diamonds to put Mark out.

After an short period of lots of folding, Anton was all in with A5, called by Andy’s AJ. No help from the board busted out Anton, with the final 3 remaining.

Rees burst out of the bubble when his short stack forced him all in with 8T, Chris L calling with KT. The board showed another T but Chris’s kicker ensured he stayed in for the heads up.

Chris L was by now a big leader with about 75% of the chips, however Andy managed to claw some back with a little luck and aggression before his A6 ran into Chris L’s 77. No Ace appeared on the board, and Chris L was duly crowned the winner, his second of the year.

Knockouts:
Chris L - 5
Rees – 3
Andy – 1
Christian – 1
Mark – 1

SLT Sunday Freezeout – Easter Sunday game, 8 April.

£2 buy in – 10 players - £20 pot

1st Ed £14
2nd Catherine £6
3rd Christian
4th Maria
5th Andy
6th Rees
7th Helen
8th Jack
9th Neil
10th Mark

A very late starting game saw 15 minute blinds starting at 20/40, two levels up from normal. Early action saw Jack and Mark short stacked when Jack’s A6 was beaten by Maria’s AQ with two Aces on the board, and when Mark raised his JJ Rees made three of a kind with his pocket 2’s.

Mark was then first out; the blinds has quickly got to 50/100 and went all in with K8, Christian on the big blind calling with a suited Q8 getting his flush on the flop.

Newcomer Neil in his second game became the second victim when he couldn’t let go of his AQ. Ed held pocket 6’s, but despite overcards on the board he continued to bet and Neil just couldn’t throw away his hand.

After holding out with a lucky win when his 34 made two pair on fourth and fifth street, he was out next when he went all in when the turn showed an Ace. The 3 he paired on the flop came to nothing against Christian’s A6, and with no K or 3 on the river he was out next.

Blinds were increasing fast and by now most players were forced all in. Helen became the next victim when she went all in with J8 only to be called by Rees with AJ. A jack flopped but no 8 came.

Ed got a double knockout next. Andy went all in with A8, Maria re-raised all in with KJ, but Ed showed pocket rockets and put them both out of the game.

On the bubble, and Christian was forced all in with 34. Ed called the unsubstantial raise with the unsuited Doyle Brunson hand, made a ten on the flop and pushed Christian out to make the money.

A short heads up contest followed when Catherine went all in with Q9 called by Ed’s suited A7; a flush on the river for Ed made him the winner in his second game, with Catherine getting two places in two appearances at SLT.

Knockouts:
Ed 5
Christian 2
Rees 1
Catherine 1

15th April SLT Sunday Game; £2 freezout, 10 players, £20 pot.

1st Catherine £14
2nd Anton £6
3rd David L
4th Andy
5th Helen
6th Rees
7th Maria
8th Chris VS
9th Ed
10th Jack

10th - Jack. After seeing a 4 10 K flop, jack raises all in holding his A10 but Helen calls holding K 10 and out goes Mr King

9th - Ed. Reece goes all in with K10 and Ed calls with J8, Ed's pair of Jacks falls foul to Rees’s straight.

8th - Chris. Always going to be cascading out of this with a preflop, prelook all in bet. 9 Q 5 hits the deck with Maria and Catherine going up against each other. The girls turn over, Maria trip-5's, Catherine trip-Q's, Chris high card A.

7th - Having been decimated by that previous out, Maria quickly falls foul to the blinds and David Deckchair Lomas cleans her out with a pair of aces to her pair of fours

6th - Rees goes all in with a couple of tasty overcards before seeing that Catherine has trip 5's.

5th - Helen. Chadney's pocket sevens held up against Anton's A9 until the 9 hit on the river ...

4th - Andy. A reversal of the previous out, Andy with KQ overcards, Catherine holding pair tens and the board doesn't show anything above a 9.

3rd - David. Playing for a straight that never came, Catherine's pair knocks out the folding demon.

2nd - Anton. Pretty much the first hand in heads up before we see all in vs all in, Anton with K4, Cat with A2, nothing hits, Cat wins.

1st - Cat, having taken out four people and stepping up to first place in her third match, she is the Christiano Ronaldo of Texas Holdem.

Thanks to Andy for keeping score and introducing a few nicknames.

Knockouts –

Catherine 4
Anton 1
David L 1
Maria 1
Rees 1
Helen 1
