SLT Sunday Freezeout – 22 April 2007

£2 buy in – 11 players - £22 pot

1st Rees £15
2nd Chris L £7
3rd Mark
4th Dave
5th Maria
6th Christian
7th Jack
8th Ed
9th Andy
10th Anton
11th Helen

Another 2 table game with the usual random draw for seating.

First out was Helen. After being raised by Rees, she called and a flop of K88 showed. After a little betting the turn came a 5, and on the river (2) Helen goes all in. After careful consideration Rees calls, both holding a King but Rees’s Ace beat Helen’s Jack.

Shortly after on the other table short-stacked Anton went all in with pocket tens, only to be called by Maria’s QQ. No help from the board and he was out.

Having gambled away a few chips Andy decided it was time for an all-in, called by Chris L. KJ vs AT with no help and Andy was out.

Down to one table. A few hands in Ed couldn’t let go of his pocket 10’s. A lady on the board saw Chris betting heavily, Ed calling and ultimately putting his whole stack in and crashing out.

Next was Jack, misreading the board with his Q9 thinking he was on for a straight. Sadly for him he didn’t get his straight, and Chris beat Jack with a Jack.

Christian was the next victim. With three players in and A-5-J on the board, Christian bets, Dave raises and Rees goes all in. Christian calls, Dave folds. Christian shows A3, but Rees revealed pocket 5’s.

Maria went out next. All in with A4; Dave re-raised with JT. The river card completed Dave’s straight and out went Maria with the ‘c’ word aimed at Dave.

Dave himself was next, raising and being called by Rees. 9-A-A flopped, Dave was all in, Rees called; however Dave’s pocket 6’s couldn’t beat Rees’s QQ.

A long three-handed game followed with Mark limpet-ing along before being forced out at the 500/1000 level when his K5 was beaten by Rees on J2.

It was gone 11pm by this stage and Chris L chose to concede and take 2nd place, a good run of excellent finishes. Congratulations to Rees for claiming his first win, despite nearly being out early on - when he was all in on an Ace flop with A7 against AQ, and hit a 7 on the river.

Knockouts
Rees 4
Chris L 3
Maria 1
Dave 1

SLT Sunday Freezeout – 6 May 2007

£2 buy in – 8 players - £16 pot

1st Stuey £11
2nd Helen £5
3rd Dave
4th Matthew
5th Chris L
6th Mark
7th Chris VS
8th David L

The bank holiday Sunday saw only 8 players; some regulars still recovering from a certain cast party the previous night… A lethargic unaggressive game saw only 2 pre-flop raises in the first 90 minutes or so, before some players got a little impatient, as described below..

David L’s first good result didn’t continue as he was first out. He was in with Stuey with J-8-2 on the board, and went all in. Stuey called showing J9, David A8, Q and a T making 4th and 5th streets.

A long while later saw Mark raising, Chris VS calling and Stuey also staying in. An Ace flopped, Stuey checked and Mark betting Chris VS all in, which Stuey also called. The turn showed a Q, Stuey bet Mark’s stack, and Mark chose to toss a coin whether to call or fold. The 10p coin showed tails, and he called. All the aces were out, Stuey’s two-pair AQ beating Mark’s AJ and Chris VS’s A7, and two were out in one hand.

Next out was Chris L, going all in with AJ. Stuey had such a big stack that he called it anyway with Q9. The board made him a straight on the river, getting his next victim.

Matthew, meanwhile, had quietly limped along and stayed in before he was all in with 45, Dave also all in with KQ and Stuey calling them both with A8. A queen flopped which put Matthew out, and reduced Stuey’s enormous pile(s) a little, and Dave double-and-a-half’ed up.

However this didn’t pay off for him as he took a chance with A3 later against Stuey with a king, and then finally was reduced to going all in with 5-8, against Stuey again, with J7. Jack flopped, and it was down to heads up.

Down to Stuey and Helen, with Helen taking back a lot of chips from him until going all in with T9 against Stuey’s A8. Nobody hit the board and Stuey won his first game.

SLT Sunday Freezeout - 13 May 2007

£2 buy-in - 11 players - £22 pot

1st Helen £15.40
2nd Dave £6.60
3rd Maria
4th David
5th Christian
6th Rees
7th Ed
8th Anton
9th Catherine
10th Matthew
11th Andy

This week's game was marred by the absence of long-standing regular, Mark 'Mark' Davies, who was suffering from post-rehearsal sore throat syndrome. The write-up is therefore the combined effort of Catherine, Christian and Dave, and as a result may lack the coherance normally expected of our weekly match reports. Apologies for any errors - the score sheet has proved rather difficult to read...

With eleven starters, this was always going to be a long one - and it reminded many players of the reasons why we should opt for two tables when any more than 10 are at the table. the usual gripes aside (not enough game play early on, too many distractions, drink spillage caused by the cramped conditions), most agreed that this week's game was more varied and interesting than the previous week's slog-a-thon.

After a varied spell of play, with considerably more flops seen than last week (and even the odd pre-flop raise), quite a few chips seemed to be changing hands early on. Maria and Rees were the main beneficiaries, with Andy and David L beginning to look a little short stacked. Andy moved all in with pocket fours, and Dave called with pocket nines. The flop of J,J,K helped neither of them and Andy's fate was sealed when the turn card came up 7, and an ace on the river, meaning Dave's hand had held.

Next to go was Matthew, with a classic SLT-style bad beat (Mark, you would have been proud!). His pocket rockets were cracked on a board of J,J,3-5-10, when Rees called his all in after the flop with K,J.

A few near-misses followed for David L, who was crowned the limpet king this week after going all-in and doubling up twice in successive hands.

By this time, 'Calamity' Catherine's chip stack was rather the worse for wear, but things seemed to be changing when a low rainbow board (5c,2d,6d-8s-4h) yielded a straight with her 3h,9d. Unfortunately for her, Christian called her all-in move with Qd,7d - although he didn't make the flush, his straight was higher.

Anton was next out, following a move which credited to frustration with the slow, distracted early game play! While the blinds were still on the low side, he went all in (1200) after the turn card, apparently not expecting anyone to call. Helen risked half her stack, and her A,K suited (diamonds) beat his A,9-off, with the following board: 6,2,10-A-6

Ed fell at the next hurdle, moving all-in on Ad,8d against Maria's Ah,Jh; an all-black flop of Q,2,2 put a flush out of reach for either of them and with neither player hitting on the turn card (9) or river (7), Maria's Jack held.

Dave's second knock-out of the night came when he pushed Rees all in after a flop of 7,6,6. Although he held A,K, Dave's K,7 had already made two-pair, and the remaining cards (J-9) changed nothing.

With the blind levels increased to 200-400, Christian faced the familiar problem of a dwindling chip stack. His A,4 didn't hit anything on the flop (5,9,2) but he called Maria's 1600 bet (putting him all in on 1060) and lost out when she turned over Q,5 she'd already made one pair, followed by a second with a Queen on the river.

Maria also accounted for David L some minutes later after he was crippled by a heavy loss, leaving him with 350 against a big blind of 600. Forced to go all-in, his K,Q-off wasn't looking too bad, until it didn't hit the board (5,3,6-8-A) and Maria's nines held up.

In the final three, Maria went all in with Ah,10h, only to be called by Dave, who revealed... Ad,10d! Things looked to be heading to a split pot as the flop came up Ac,Jd,4h - then the luck of the cards turned and successive diamonds on the turn (9d) and river (3d) meant Maria was out to Dave's diamanté flush.

With time already rung at the bar, and blinds a weighty 500-1000, the final heads up was always going to be a frenetic affair. Dave started off well with a 4 to 1 chip lead, but after a few hands, things looked rather more even, with less than 500 between them. On a flop of 8d,Jh,10h both players moved all in. Helen's 3h,2h made the flush when the turn card came up Qh - Dave's flush failed to materialise from his Kh,2d when the river produced 8c rather than another heart. Dave conceded and Helen was crowned the champion, winning the top cash prize for the first time in her post-league Poker Queens career!

Knockouts:
Maria - 3
Dave - 3
Helen - 2
Rees - 1
Christian - 1

If no-one was there to witness it it wouldn't have been a hugely challenging victory.

Before the official analysis goes up for yesterday - congratulations again to Helen, but (in part) apologies to Rhys and Anton for some spectacularly ill-advised moves from my side at the end of the game, which suddenly and dramatically tipped the game in La Chadney's favour. Thought I should say something after overhearing dark mutterings in the men's loo as I don't much want to be lynched...!

I've been recently playing hold 'em on the yahoo site, which is actually a very different game with limited stakes and favours/punishes less wilder betting. But, erm, I'm quickly learning the errors of my ways.

Still I'm going to keep looking out for my lucky 7's - and congratulations to fellow newbie Caroline too yesterday for her very creditable showing!

SLT Sunday Freezeout - 20th May 2007

£2 buy-in - 13 players - £26 pot

1st Helen £18
2nd Anton £8
3rd Rees
4th David L
5th Caroline
6th Paul
7th Stuey
8th Chris VS
9th Lisa
10th Mark
11th Bob
12th Chris
13th Trudi

First out was Pokerqueens newbie Trudi, knocked out by Stuey with A-high flush to her straight.

Christian bets high on a flush draw raggy flop with a seven the highest card showing, and David L raises him. The turn card saw David L all in to which Christian called, still drawing, and never hit. Shortly after Christian is all in with J3 on a 5-2-J flop to which Anton, after some consideration, calls with JQ to knock him out.

Bob won a lot of chips with some aggressive play early on, forcing a lot of folds. However he bet out in a hand with Anton with an A-6-6 flop, Anton making a raise and then Bob going all in, to which Anton called. Anton’s Q6 meant that Bob needed another ace for his A5 to win; it never came.

Next was latecomer Mark who was never in the game. It was all in with AT to Caroline’s KK. Surely enough no ace showed, and Caroline claimed her first victim.

Lisa’s first game of the year after a break from last year’s league saw her game come to an early exit; not showing her hand when Stuey revealed KK.

Seconds later on the other table Chris VS was all in with JT, called by Caroline’s AK. Chris was soundly beaten with A-K-4 on the flop, and another ace on fourth street to complete her nut full house.

Down to one table with 7 left. David L managed to accumulate chips with some forceful betting, with Helen, Paul and Stuey gradually leaking them.

Several hands into the final table game, Rees was all in with K5, called by Stuey (also all in) with 99 and big-stacked Anton with QQ. Rees tripled up with K-T on the flop and another K-T on fourth and fifth to make his full house; and Stuey made his usual graceful exit.

Part of David L’s accumulation was his double knockout of Caroline and Paul; David with A2, Caroline Q9 and Paul T4. An ace flopped and in was down to four players.

David himself was out next when he misread Helen’s bet with two 2’s on the board; she revealed Q2, David L mucked and left the table.

By this stage Helen had become the big chip leader with about 70% of the 13,000 chips on the table. Rees was out when his all in was only an extra hundred or so for Helen to call. He had AT, Helen Q3. Nothing flopped, but 3 and Q on fourth and fifth put Rees out.

Heads up, and Anton was looking at his opponent’s towering metropolis of chips to his meagre wooden-shack of a stack. Sure enough, he was forced in with J6, Helen called with A9. An Ace flopped and a 9 rivered to give her a double win.

Can she make the hat trick?

Knockouts-

Helen 3
Caroline 2
David L 2
Stuey 2
Anton 2
Rees 1

**Remember folks there's no game next Sunday owing to Comedy Night. Next game 3rd June.**

There was no Trish in the game that I remember. I think you mean our old friend Trudi. Good to see her and Bob back at SLT after so many years. That's the power of poker for you.

And don't worry David, Rees and I were muttering over a strictly personal matter in the gents loos.

That didn't sound right did it?

In all seriousness however we merely remarked that your play had introduced an interesting edge of randomness to the game. Something I had said to you only moments before.

All in all by the way I think the game was much better than last weeks due to the introduction of the new er... guidelines and finished at just the right time.

Go for the hatrick Helen!

Trish was a deliberate mistake.. hehe

No it was actually that i couldn't read my own scrawls.

And good to start the game earlier as planned; it flowed very smoothly.

SLT Sunday Freezeout - 3rd June 2007

£2 buy-in - 10 players - £20 pot

1st Christian £14
2nd Anton £7
3rd Mark
4th Chris VS
5th Andy
6th Matthew
7th Caroline
8th Rees
9th Maria
10th Helen

A single table ten handed game saw a slightly late start, but Rule 63 (b) Part 13 (as amended) made sure that the clock started at 7pm.

Having finished first in her last two games, Helen managed to do the opposite this time around by going out first. So in a way she did make a hat-trick of firsts! Her KT couldn’t beat Christian’s A9, with rags on the board. Caroline was also in that hand with KQ.

Maria played her usual aggressive style by firing chips at the table, only this time they mostly seemed to go into Matthew’s stack. Eventually she was all in with A2, Chris VS called with AT and knocked her out.

Rees, having never really been in the game said “well this is good enough for an all-in”, and duly did so. Caroline called his all-in, leaving her very short stacked, and it was only a few chips for Mark on big blind to call. Mark put Caroline all-in to knock them both out; KQ with a Q on the board to A8 and AT.

Matthew, having made quite a lot of early chips found himself out when trying to bluff Christian on the turn. He showed A3, but Christian’s pocket 8’s held up and Matthew was out.

Andy had played an unusually tight game, having played only one hand (KK) much earlier, which he won with a three of a kind, before playing a second hand by going all-in. Christian and Anton were both callers to his bet. Rags came down on the board but both of them checked it to a showdown, Anton’s JJ beating Christian’s A6, and Andy out with AK.

Chris VS had played a little deceptively, taking significant chips from Maria (QQ with Q on the flop) and Mark with some big betting. However he was the 7th out, all in with KJ versus Christian’s J4; a 4 showing on fourth street.

Down to three, and Mark was out next, having played a steady game. Short stacked, he went in with KT, Anton called with AJ to make it heads up.

Anton had lost a lot in a hand when Christian’s AJ beat Anton’s A9. He made some back from Christian, and evened out against him after taking Mark’s chips. However the heads-up match was a one sided game with Anton folding a lot to Christian’s betting. It ended with Anton’s T6 losing to Christian’s 48 with 5-4-5 on the flop.

Congratulations to Christian for winning his second game, and Anton for finished second yet again … !

Knockouts:

Christian 4
Mark 2 (double)
Anton 2
Chris VS 1

SLT Sunday Freezeout - 10th June 2007

£2 buy-in - 8 players - £16 pot

1st Christian £12
2nd Louisa £4
3rd Anton
4th Helen
5th Mark
6th Caroline
7th Dave
8th Matthew

Only 8 players in this game which saw Christian win a second game in a row, a husband and wife battle with Louisa.

First out was Matthew; making some gains early on saw him go all in with A5, called by Caroline with AK and Louisa A9. The board of J-9-6-8-T was checked throughout, and Louisa knocked out Matthew with the 9.

Dave managed to limp along short stacked for a while, before succumbing to the blinds at 50/100. He could only manage another ten chips on top of the big blind, which Caroline called and Mark stayed in on big blind. 2-K-T flopped with 5 on the turn with no betting. Another 2 on the river saw Mark bet out and get called by Caroline. Mark revealed 72 beating Caroline’s pocket Aces, and Dave was out with K5.

Caroline was out the very next hand, going all in with 84, Mark re-raising with AA and everyone else folding. An 8 flopped but no more help made her the next victim.

A long period of play followed, with low stacks getting back in making everyone close to even, except Louisa with the bulk of the chips. She knocked out Mark next when he could only make 255 to the 500 big blind. Louisa’s 93 beat Mark’s A8 with a 9 on the flop.

Helen made considerable gains but found herself in trouble when nothing helped her AJ on the flop. She went all in with her remaining chips only to find Christian holding pocket 5’s with another 5 on the board.

Anton was out next, short stacked and forced in with J5 against Christian’s Q8. Neither hit the board and queen high saw out Anton.

A long heads up contest between husband and wife saw chips going back and forth, until Louisa’s mistake trying to win with King high against Christian who hit an Ace on the flop with his A3. Finally she was all in on a 5-4-T flop, holding K9. Christian had J5 and with no king or nine on fourth and fifth made Christian the winner twice in a row.

The last four games have been won by two people now, but can Christian make the hat-trick that neither Mark or Helen could?

Knockouts:
Christian 3
Louisa 2
Mark 2

SLT Sunday Freezeout – 17 June 2007

£2 buy in – 10 players - £20 pot

1st Christian £14
2nd Dave £6
3rd Mark
4th Rees
5th Helen
6th Trudi
7th Chris VS
8th Caroline
9th Matthew
10th Bob

The last game in which players can smoke ended with Christian making a hat trick, and Dave securing another 2nd place.

Bob was out first – raising pre-flop, and Rees raising all in having lost a lot of chips to Christian earlier. Trudi calls. A-9-5 flops with some betting between Trudi and Bob, the turn reveals a Q and Bob is all in. He reveals KT, Trudi AT and Rees with QQ. The river is another 5 giving Rees the full house, Trudi with the second best hand and Bob with King high.

Second out was Matthew, going all in on A-Q-A flops. Christian thought about it for a while before deciding that Matthew was bluffing – he was right, Matthew had 78 and Christian 77. No 8 showed on 4th and 5th streets and Christian got his first KO of the game.

Caroline had successfully made a few chips with some all in moves, but fell foul of Christian when she was all in with TT on a K-3-3 flop. Christian showed KQ, the last two cards no help for Caroline and she was out.

A few hands later and Rees calls to which Chris VS goes all in with slightly more chips. Helen calls too. 9-5-5 flops and it’s checked round, a king on the turn with no betting; the river shows a T and Helen bluffs the hand Rees was holding – her A7 to his JQ. Straight wins, Chris VS mucks and is out.

Trudi and Helen were all in a few hands later, and with blinds 150/300, Trudi only had an extra 10 chips and Helen couldn’t complete the bet. Mark on BB only had to put in 10. Three-handed showdown, Mark on 78, Helen T4 and Trudi QT. Mark hit two pair 7-8 on the flop which was enough to eliminate them both.

Down to three, Mark clinging on to chips and getting AA just in the nick of time, Dave looking after a healthy stack and Rees and Christian betting heavily against each other. Rees eventually found himself in trouble on KJ with a 9-2-3-8 flop. Christian forces the betting, and Rees decided to call and was all in. Christian had 78, and made two pair with an 8 on fifth.

Mark was out the very next hand, 44 to Christian with 78 again, this time suited. Christian flops flush and straight draw, and surely enough he makes the flush on the river.

The heads up battle was short lived, Christian holding the vast majority of chips. Dave got a lifeline when his J3 made full house against Christian’s K4, however a few hands later it was battle of the overcards on Q-3-5 flop. Dave is all in showing King high and Christian with Ace high. Once again it’s the river that wins it for Christian with an Ace to give him top pair.

Congratulation to Christian for making the first ever SLT Pokerqueens hat-trick.

Knockouts-
Christian 5
Rees 2
Mark 2

SLT Sunday Freezeout – 1 July 2007

£2 buy in – 9 players - £18 pot

1st Caroline £12.50
2nd Dave £5.50
3rd Matthew
4th Rees
5th Chris L
6th Helen
7th Mark
8th Anton
9th Christian <<<<< owes Caroline and Dave each a quid !
________________________________________

Match report:

Lots of gum-chewing and snuff-sniffing was the theme for our first non-smoking game after a two week break.

The hat-trick was not turned into four in a row as Christian, having arrived late, also left the table first, all in on a 9-J-7 flop. Ahead with top pair, A9, he was out drawn by Rees holding 78 when the ten showed on the river.

Anton continued his form of coming second in everything and was out next. Having had his chips gradually disappear they finally vanished completely. He was all in with Helen and Caroline both calling and Chris L staying in by adding the small extra to his big blind. K-9-Q-J-5 was the board with no betting until the river card; Chris’s 7T gave him the straight, beating Caroline’s 22, Helen’s AK and Anton out on AJ.

Mark was first out after the 9pm fag break, again limping along until finally his KQ came up against Rees’s AK, and duly lost.

A few hands later Helen, who had made a decent stack earlier, was forced out. She hit a big starting hand just when she needed it, pocket Kings, but four diamonds on the table meant she was out to Matthew holding a queen with a ten of diamonds. Rees’s 73 of diamonds would have knocked out Matthew had the fourth diamond not shown. Matthew’s first knockout since records began.

Chris L had been doing well early on, but the higher blinds had reduced his stack. He stayed in with an all in move that everyone folded to, but then had two callers in Rees and Caroline. Checked to the river, Caroline won with AQ high, beating Rees’s AJ and Chris L out with Q7.

Rees was now the short stack and moved all in, called by Caroline on KQ. Rees was winning on the turn, 9-2-T-T giving him two pairs, unfortunately for him a Q on the river gave Caroline a higher two pair.

Down to three, and Matthew still in but up against Dave and Caroline on bigger stacks, managed to win a couple of all in moves. Dave, who’d being playing a quiet and steady game started to make the moves against him, and despite losing K5 to Matthew’s A4 when he flopped a straight, knocked him out a few hands later when this time Matthew had K5 and Dave his A9. Flopping one Ace and turning another ensured Matthew was out of the game.

With blinds at 500/1000 and only 9000 chips between them meant that Caroline and Dave played an all-in or fold game. Chips went from one to the other briefly; Caroline’s Q9 rescued from pocket 10’s on the river before Dave’s A5 was beaten by Caroline on Q9 again.

Congratulation to Caroline for her first win of the year.

Statsman Verdict.

Caroline’s win probably came sooner than most people would have wagered, however she will be pleased to have come through with a win quickly in her first Pokerqueens season. She will hope continue the theme of running wins that have happened with three players this year.

Dave has had yet another high placing, and after a quiet and steady performance in the last to get his second 2nd in a row will now look to go one better in the next.

After some torrid results and some unlucky and desperate moves Matthew has at last managed to score a good result. Will look to go all the way and take advantage of the fewer players due to the smoking ban, however has much to prove.

Another frustrating 4th place for Rees as he found himself closed in and left behind by the top three in the last 2 games. A likely winner in the next if he can find a clearer line in the last few furlongs.

Chris L is not a regular starter but however has shown good form in the games he plays. Unlikely to start in the next, he is definitely one to watch for if he does.

Helen’s form has dropped off since her double win a few weeks ago, and at the last game she found the smoking ban made the going difficult. A likely non-runner in the next.

Mark managed to gain some early ground in the last but was never really a contender. Has much to prove if he is to show the form he had back in March.

Anton will look to go back to going back to his high finishes last month after a poor finish in the last from a slow start. Can’t rule him out.

The unprecedented hat-trick from Christian was always a possibility from this strong player, however his inconsistency showed in the worst possible way in the last. A perhaps unlucky exit in the last, but will look to take a little less risk in the next, and to also to pay his buy in.

Statsman Selection for the next game: Dave H.

Match Report:

A short handed game this week, rehearsals and no smoking allowed keeping numbers away. Unusually for a short-handed game, there were a lot of big hands shown down.

Steve E thought he’d have a go, and after a quick lesson was out of the game even faster, donating all his chips to Christian after 2 hands. Losing to a full house first hand, and then finding out 2-5 doesn’t win very often, to Christian’s profit.

A proper game carried on, with Mark being out next on big blind. Flopping 6-Q-6 he raised Anton’s bet, but another queen on the turn gave Anton the bigger boat.

Much later Matthew was out, going all-in with AT only to run into Rees holding AA, with the other Ace first flopped.

Rees, low stacked made a call, Christian raised and Rees had little option but to go all in. His K5 was beaten by Christian’s TT, with another ten flopping.

Down to two, and most people’s money would have been Christian winning and Anton coming second. After about 40 minutes of chip swapping Anton made his all in move with AT, and Christian called him with KQ. An ace and king flopped, but the river showed another king which left Anton with very few chips. All in the next hand with rubbish, Christian called and won with better rubbish.

Statsman Verdict:

Christian was able to prove that last week’s drop out was a one off and his unbeatable form continued. Now virtually unable to finish the year in the red, he will be forcing people to take him on. One to fear.

Another good finish from this reliable runner also showed that last week’s poor placing was a fluke. He will think himself unlucky not to have taken this game and must surely win soon.

Rees’s consistently good form continues but has still yet to find that extra to go all the way and is never one to rule out.

Another better finish from Matthew will give him the confidence to be a winner. Unlucky in the last, he will look to maintain a steady performance.

Mark’s poor form continues, again never a contender and has a lot to prove if he doesn’t want to be seen as an also-ran.

Steve E’s first game looked as if he entered a different game. Opponents will look to him for easy donations.

Statsman Selection for the next game: Anton.
