After having several successful games recently I think a few options need discussing.
Please be frank and state any opinions. I for one am very keen to build on the progress we have made so far and think this is a good time to think about how to make our future poker games successful.
These are the questions I have in mind. Please feel free to give your opinions on these and/or add others.
1. What is the best night to play? We seem to have settled into a Sunday night game but there are good reasons possibly to move to a Friday or Saturday.
2. Cash or league or both? We played a tournament cash game at Maria's the other week and everyone seemed happy with those stakes. Can we combine this with a league structure too?
3. Venue? I have some problems with the bar personally. It's difficult to play without interruptions and we are constrained to a time limit which is guaranteed to change the game. Would a home game be better?
4. New players. At the moment we have what I think is a strong core group who are all learning together and enjoying the process. We manage to keep a balance between taking our poker seriously and having fun. What do we do if a new player wants to join in. Do we want to start again teaching new players or should we keep teaching games to seperate nights.
5. Holdem only or other games? Omaha High Low anyone?
What do people think?

I think Sunday worked because people often didn't have other commitments on that night. The downside of the bar shutting at 10.30 also meant that it didn't go on late into the night on a "school" night. Six of one and half a dozen of the other really.
I really enjoyed the game at Maria's last Saturday and am quite happy to do a money game, provided buy-ins are kept affordable. I would however feel that we were letting the side down a tad not being able to offer a venue in return (unless you want to play one at a time!). Only some people will be able to offer the space to play and this may become a bit wearing for them.
Sorry I missed the first league game last night. Didn't get home from work till after 7 and really needed a sit-down and a cuppa before heading off again! |

1. What is the best night to play? We seem to have settled into a Sunday night game but there are good reasons possibly to move to a Friday or Saturday.
Sunday obviously has the problem of earlier finishing times. May I suggest Saturdays?
-The bar is usually almost empty (fewer distractions)
-The bar is open later
-Hangover doesn't have to be dealt with on Monday morning.
2. Cash or league or both? We played a tournament cash game at Maria's the other week and everyone seemed happy with those stakes. Can we combine this with a league structure too?
-No hurry as I'm still working out NOT to raise when i can't win.!
3. Venue? I have some problems with the bar personally. It's difficult to play without interruptions and we are constarained to a time limit which is guaranteed to change the game. Would a home game be better.
-Saturdays are usually empty, so fewer interruptions. Perhaps when it is being used for an event like a show or quiz nite (don't forget the 18th!) we can play a home cash game.
4. New players. At the moment we have what I think is a strong core group who are all learning together and enjoying the process. We manage to keep a balance between taking our poker seriously and having fun. What do we do if a new player wants to join in. Do we want to start again teaching new players or should we keep teaching games to seperate nights.
-It took me a very short time to learn the rules and basics, so there's no reason why someone can't go away and practise online and by watching us play. It's also pretty easy to work out if someone wants to play because they're interested or just pissing about.
5. Holdem only or other games? Omaha High Low anyone?
-Pineapple! ...I like playing Omaha Hi-Lo both fixed and pot-limit. Games will take longer because there's four cards to deal, people will be looking for 6 combinations of hands with 4 cards rather than 1 with a pair of cards, working out who's won will take some thinking too! |

Hi Guys,
I am very happy to host again this Saturday if anyone is up for it.
Starting a 8pm this time?
Can I suggest everyone brings a bottle and a plate of nibbles just to cut the work a bit this end.
As long as I don't have an early start in the morning then having the game at my flat is quite alright by me.

Looks like there might be two games this week then!
People are still welcome to Maria's on Saturday but those who can't make it may well want to play on Sunday. I'd probably be up for both.

we are not going to know about saturday until the day itself, for various boring reasons. sorry about this.
however if we are back in london and up for it then can we call one of you and see if it is happening?
sorry again not to be certain - i would assume we were out for sat to be on the safe side.

Speaking of fishing, I might be tempted to bring round some sushi/sashimi, provided no-one is averse to uncooked flesh..? |

Might well be up for Sunday, as long as people can cope with being in the bar ... |

Ok..well
Saturday: My place at 8pm for anyone who can make it, looks like 4 of us right now, for a friendly game and then if Paul and Lisa can make it later we will either start another game when you arrive. How does that sound to everyone?
Sunday: I am up for playing but will have TJ auditons so may not make it but I am sure there will be enough of you to have a good game in the bar.
