i am amassing a small collection of poker books, some of which i have found extremely useful. if anyone wants to borrow any then just ask. i would recommmend small but concise chapters in doyle brunson and phil hellmuth's books, and if they excite you then harrington's two-volume collection is fantastic (i know anton has read part one and agrees with me). i have all of the above - in fact i think harrington vol 1 is currently with matthew - and am happy to lend as long as i can keep track of them.
also i subscribe to cardplayer magazine which monthly has excellent articles by the top pros.
of course putting all of the reading into practice is another matter as i have found (!), but i really think there are some good and often basic things to learn, which otherwise would take you a few games to learn. be nice if we can share our knowledge as we all get better.
anyone else got any books they can recommend? |

If you've got something that talks through NL Hold'em concisely then I'd be grateful. Basically something that covers the main points, (and how to make me Lisa's nemesis, rather than she mine...!) |

I agree with Paul that Harrington's book is excellent. Full of very interesting problems and scenarios which really make you think about what you would do in certain situations.
The thing that I really learned from this book is the number of factors which you should consider when deciding how to play a hand. All of Harrington's problems include full information about blind levels, each players stack sizes, the type of game, player profiles (Player A has been playing aggressively, Player B limping in frequently etc) and finally your cards. It's easy for a beginner to only consider the cards themselves.
If anyone is interested I have a large number of books and resources available at http://www.akwebsolutions.co.uk/poker/
PM me for the password.
Been reading Sklanksky and Malmuth's Holdem Poker for Advanced Players recently and finding it hard going. Some interesting stuff but not written in a very engaging way. Makes it a bit of a chore to read.
Might be worth posting a problem of the week on here actually and seeing what people make of it. I'll try to get one up today.
